This lantern was built to be carried. To be hung. To swing from a forestay in the dark and tell other vessels that something was there, holding position, waiting out the night.

What sits here is a genuine antique ship's anchor lantern, its cylindrical steel housing, original wire guard, carry handle, and maker's plate all fully preserved, its prismatic glass cylinder still clear and reeded, its ventilation slots still open at the base exactly as maritime regulations once required. This is the lantern in its complete, unaltered form, set on a solid brass mounting plate and rewired only enough to bring it back to the warmth it was always designed to produce.

The maker's plate on the housing — still legible, still riveted in place — gives this piece a provenance that no amount of patina alone can match. It was manufactured somewhere, to a specification, for a vessel that needed it to perform. It performed. Now it glows quietly on a surface, its carry handle still raised, as though ready to be lifted and hung again at a moment's notice.

Lit, the prismatic glass wraps warm, ribbed light in a full circle around the lantern's mid-section, the same 360-degree all-round glow that once marked an anchored vessel's position in open water, now marking a room with something altogether quieter and more intimate.

Of the two navigation lanterns in this collection, this one is the more complete object, taller, fuller in form, more visibly whole in its original purpose. It requires almost nothing of the collector except a surface to rest on and a socket to connect to.

  • Prismatic glass cylinder — original, full 360-degree warm light distribution

  • Solid brass mounting plate base — ideal for wall hanging

  • Original ventilation slots — open and preserved

  • Minimal intervention — rewired only, everything original

  • One of a kind — a genuine maritime instrument, preserved whole

A lantern that once told the sea where a ship was resting. Now it simply rests, and glows.
