At its foundation is a pair of hand-carved wooden angel wings, their feathers rendered in extraordinary detail across the full surface of each panel, every quill individually scored, every layer of plumage overlapping the next with the patience that only hand carving can produce. The wings are large, their combined form filling the wall with a presence that is simultaneously ancient and architectural, the pale, limed timber surface giving the carving a quality somewhere between sacred art and natural history, like something found in a church and a forest at the same time.

At the point where the two wings meet, the sternum, the center, the place where flight begins, a salvaged pipe T-bracket is mounted directly into the carved wood, its dark iron a deliberate material contrast to the pale timber surrounding it, and from each arm of that bracket a wire cage light extends outward and upward, their twin Edison filament bulbs glowing warm and amber against the carved feather surface behind them. The industrial light fittings do not compete with the wings, they complete them, the raw honesty of salvaged pipe and wire cage against hand-carved timber creating a dialogue between the crafted and the found, the spiritual and the mechanical, the ancient material and the industrial one.

This is The Galleria's most unexpected piece, the only one in the collection where a hand-carved artwork becomes the architecture of a light, and where two cage bulbs glow at the center of something that was made, not salvaged, and is the more extraordinary for it.

One pair of wings. Two lights. One wall that will never look the same again.
