At its heart is a genuine antique ship's wheel, eight turned hardwood spokes, double-ringed timber rim, and original brass hub plate all fully intact, the wood still warm and rich with the oils and hands of its working life at sea. It is mounted flat to the wall, face out, exactly as it might have been displayed in a captain's cabin, not hidden, not repurposed beyond recognition, but presented for what it is: one of the most recognisable and beautiful objects maritime history produced.
At the wheel's hub, where the helmsman's hands once converged to turn a vessel through open water, a small genuine bronze marine lantern now sits, its verdigris patina deep and layered, its original housing intact, tilted slightly downward to direct its warm amber glow into the room. The intervention is as light as possible: a lantern at the center of a wheel, one object finding its place within another, the two pieces of maritime salvage meeting at the point where navigation and light have always intersected.
Nothing here disguises what it once was. The wheel is still a wheel. The lantern is still a lantern. Together they form something that is simultaneously a wall light and a piece of genuine nautical history, the kind of object that earns its place on a wall not by filling it, but by commanding it.
As with every piece carrying this designation in the collection, both components are genuinely salvaged. This exact combination exists once and will never be assembled again.
