The base of this piece is the genuine housing of a vintage FM/AM stereo cassette recorder, its dark textured casing, chrome control panel, and original tuning dial preserved exactly as found. The cassette door, control buttons, and carry handle all remain fully intact — untouched details from a machine that once travelled from room to room, now standing still to do a different kind of work.
From the top of the unit, aged galvanized pipework rises and branches in three directions, each hand-bent through its own sequence of turns before ending in a cage-guarded pendant bulb, the three lights staggered at different heights across the piece. A salvaged pressure gauge sits fixed low on the pipework, its dial and needle preserved untouched, adding a second layer of found instrumentation. Four small cast wheels lift the whole unit slightly off the surface, giving it a sense of restrained mobility, as if it might still be wheeled from desk to shelf.
No cassette housing carries the same wear or dial markings twice, and this particular unit, gauge, and pipe run were shaped entirely around what survived. This is a singular object, existing in exactly one configuration.
