Wood Dragon Hammer

This piece takes the form of a ceremonial mallet, its head carved in the likeness of a traditional guardian figure — bulging eyes, bared fangs, and an elaborate crest of foliate detail, all worked directly into the dark hardwood by hand. The carving draws on a long tradition of protective guardian iconography found across Southeast Asian temple and ceremonial art, where such fierce, watchful faces were believed to ward off misfortune.

The handle extends from the guardian's crown, its surface finished in a fine textured pattern that continues the mallet's overall sense of craft and intention, while the mallet's body swells into a series of turned rings before meeting a solid square plinth base.
