What hangs here is a genuine antique military-grade fluorescent strip light, its long rectangular housing finished in original matte black, its original wire cage guard latched shut with the same heavy-duty clasps that once kept it sealed in a ship's hold, a bunker, or an industrial facility where the light had to keep working regardless of what surrounded it. The ballast box — original, still mounted to the top of the housing — tells the story of a fixture designed for environments that demanded reliability above all else. This was not a light chosen for how it looked. It was chosen for what it could withstand.

Suspended on two original chains at either end, it hangs long and level, its horizontal form unlike any other ceiling piece in the collection, no ring, no sphere, no branching arms. Just a rectangle of genuine military hardware, doing what it was always designed to do, in a room it was never designed for.

That contrast is the entire point. Against a domestic ceiling, or a high industrial loft, or a restaurant interior, this strip light reads not as an awkward relic but as a deliberate, confident choice, the kind of object that makes everything around it look considered simply by being so completely, unapologetically itself.

Rewired for domestic use, it now takes a standard bulb while retaining every original detail of its military character. Nothing was touched that did not need to be.
