The Dragon Pump Lamp
Some pieces arrive with their name already on them. This one announces itself.
At its base stands a genuine antique cast iron pump body, its original green enamel paint worn into a rich, layered patina of jade and iron, its maker's name still boldly cast into the body, a signature from a Japanese industrial manufacturer whose equipment once worked hard in real systems across the region. This is not a decorative casting or a reproduction finish; it is a genuine pump body, salvaged whole, carrying the weight and authority of real working equipment.
From its crown, salvaged brass pipework rises and branches with real vertical drama, three independent light heads deployed at three distinct heights, each of a different cage style: a spherical globe cage at the very top, an open wire lantern cage in the middle, and a classic tapered cage at the lower reach. The effect is of a lamp still mid-assembly, still being added to, each head a different decision made at a different moment, and all the more interesting for it. A genuine reclaimed pressure gauge extends to one side on a brass arm, its needle steady, flanked by an operable red valve handle that draws the eye with its familiar accent of colour.
The green of the pump, the red of the valve, the warm amber of three filament bulbs, this piece carries more colour than almost anything else in the collection, and wears it with the confidence of a tool that was never asked to be subtle.
As with every piece here, the pump body is singular. This lamp was built once, from a base that will never be found again in this form.
