Octavia

The body of this piece is a genuine hand-carved wooden panel, its tall, tapered surfboard-like form worked in fine, continuous relief from tip to base. A pair of stylised dragon or serpent motifs wind along the panel's length, framed by dense geometric fretwork, while a large circular mandala sits at the panel's centre — layered rings of pattern converging on a small central diamond, the clear focal point of the entire carving. Every line has been cut by hand into the timber, giving the surface real depth and shadow rather than a flat printed pattern.

Four short pipe arms extend outward from the panel's edges, two upper and two lower, each ending in a compact cage-guarded pendant bulb. The pipework is kept deliberately minimal, allowing the carving itself to remain the visual centre of the piece while the four lights frame it symmetrically from each corner. The natural tonal contrast of the carved wood — pale in the recessed lines, darker across the raised surface — gives the panel a shifting, almost shimmering quality as the light catches it.

No hand-carved panel repeats its pattern exactly, and this particular combination of motif, symmetry, and grain exists in this one object alone. This is a singular wall light, carved once and existing in exactly this form.
