Coin Goddess

This sculpture depicts a traditional dancer in a poised, mid-movement stance, hands raised in a classical gesture drawn from Southeast Asian temple dance. The face, arms, and feet are finished in hand-carved wood, warm-toned and softly polished, while an elaborate gilded headdress crowns the figure — richly detailed with flame-like tiers and fine repoussé patterning, catching light against the darker tones below.

The body of the garment is entirely covered in overlapping metal coin-form discs, layered densely from collar to hem to suggest the movement of fabric in mid-dance. Each disc has been individually stitched or fixed by hand, creating a rippling, almost liquid surface texture across the shoulders, torso, and full skirt. The figure stands on a matching tiered base, built from the same coin-plated construction, grounding the piece with visual continuity from crown to platform.

No two coin-garment sculptures drape identically — the layering, overlap, and settling of each disc is unique to this single figure. This is a genuine hand-finished piece, existing in exactly this one form.
